Mount Vernon man faces menacing charge following hourslong standoff

Police say White would not come out of the apartment, so they eventually obtained and executed a search warrant.

A 45-year-old man was arrested late Monday night after an hourslong standoff with police in Mount Vernon, city officials say.
Investigators say Sabree White got into a traffic altercation around 4:30 p.m. and brandished a gun. He then ran into an apartment in the 100 block of South 11th Avenue.
Dozens of police officers in full gear flooded the area and cordoned off the neighborhood.
Solange Harvey who lives in the neighborhood and has 7-year-old twin boys.
"Everything was so scary, whenever we would come out to ask what's going on, police would say, ‘Go back in the house."
The Grimes Elementary School is located on the corner of South 11th, but the situation unfolded after the school day had ended.
Police say White would not come out of the apartment, so they eventually obtained and executed a search warrant. Several hours after the incident began, White was taken into custody and charged with menacing.
Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard said police recovered a gun and ammunition from the apartment and did an excellent job keeping everyone safe during the incident.
