With Mother's Day coming up this weekend, a group of moms who lost their children at the hands of the NYPD are calling for justice.

The group rallied today in Foley Square in Lower Manhattan. They are calling on newly appointed NYPD Inspector General Philip Eure to investigate what they are calling a pattern police incidents that result in civilian deaths. They are also demanding disciplinary action to be taken against those deemed responsible.

The mother of 16-year-old Kimani Gray, who was shot to death by police in March 2013, was among the group.

Police say they approached Gray because he was acting suspiciously, and shot him after he pointed a gun at officers.

Gray's family questions the NYPD's story, claiming the officers used unreasonable force.

The shooting has since sparked outrage in the community, and has become the impetus for several protests.
