More Yonkers Police Department officers will be armed with Tasers moving forward.

Since 2009, only patrol sergeants and the Emergency Services Unit in Yonkers have carried Taser guns. Now, 66 additional Tasers, equipped with video and audio recorders that work even if not fired, will be given to officers on patrol.

Each officer must get trained and receive certification before being issued a Taser.

One Taser costs $1,800

Officers should complete their training by March.
