The James Monroe High School baseball team clinched the PSAL Bronx A East Division title with a win against DeWitt Clinton High School Monday.
The Monroe Eagles were up 1-0 with the bases loaded in the third inning. Clinton?s Jose Aponte got Tommy Guzman to ground into the inning-ending double play. The Eagles again loaded the bases in the fifth inning. Gabriel Molina then got hit by a pitch, bringing in a run.
The Eagles' Dawin Rivas pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts.
Monroe cruised to a 4-0 victory, clinching the regular season title for the ninth-straight year. The defending city champs are undefeated in league play.
