Mexican authorities say DNA testing has confirmed that human remains found near the country's Pacific coast are that of missing Pelham man Harry Devert.

A spokesman for the Mexican government says tests identified the decomposed body, and prosecutors have turned the case over to federal officials. Experts say the handling of the case suggests organized crime may have played a role in his death.

However, an attorney for Devert's family is disputing the information released by Mexican officials. The attorney says DNA test results take several weeks, and adds that he has not received any final confirmation about the remains.

As News 12 has reported, Devert vanished six months ago while he was on a motorcycle trip through Mexico, sparking an intense effort to find him. He was last seen in January, traveling through an area troubled by drug-related violence.

A break in the case came when officials say two plastic bags containing dismembered human remains were discovered near a motorcycle in Mexico.
