Metro-North officials say the railroad will run on an "enhanced Saturday schedule" for Thursday following Tuesday night's fire in East Harlem.
The schedule will provide additional trains during peak travel periods and represents 75 percent of capacity, according to the railroad.
The fire near the tracks in East Harlem caused the suspension of service into and out of Grand Central Terminal Tuesday night.
Officials say limited train service was restored on Metro-North lines into and out of Grand Central Station hours after the fire broke out beneath the elevated train tracks. The fire started at a garden nursery center located under the elevated tracks at East 118th Street and Park Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Metro-North said two of the four tracks in the area of the fire were operational for Wednesday's morning rush. Trains were slowed from their normal 60 mph to 30 mph as repairs continued.Metro-North riders experienced long delays and cancellations during their commute. Many reported delays of more than two hours.
Metro-North officials say they hope to be able to increase service, but the repairs could take a few days and may not be back to normal until Friday.
As of Wednesday night, commuters said they saw service improve with delays reduced to around 15 minutes leaving New York City.
