A recent poll conducted by the Associated Press found that a majority of adults in the US plan to stay home for New Year's Eve.
About 20% will be at a family or friend's home, and 5% plan to celebrate at a restaurant, bar, or event.
The poll's findings suggest that many people prefer a low-key celebration at home, rather than venturing out to crowded events or parties.
In White Plains, officials are preparing for the annual ball drop, despite the rainy weather forecast. Mayor Tom Roach encouraged people to come out and celebrate, saying "We encourage people to come out... and enjoy being with other people to celebrate."
Despite the rainy weather forecast, officials in White Plains are encouraging people to come out and celebrate. Mayor Tom Roach said, "We encourage people to come out. Take a look at the weather...there's a lot of gear out there to help keep you dry, and we encourage people to come and enjoy being with other people to celebrate."
Gov. Kathy Hochul has directed state agencies to prepare for the rainy weather, and is asking New Yorkers in the downstate area to do the same.
