Muslim leaders in the Hudson Valley are condemning the brutal attack by a married couple on a California workplace Christmas party earlier this week.
Officials say that the female suspect in Wednesday's mass shootings in San Bernardino swore allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State on her Facebook page either shortly before or during the attack.
They say the shooters and other terrorists distort the meaning of Islam.
"The pope has mentioned many times -- Islam is a religion of peace," says Dr. Shaik Ubaid, of the Muslim Peace Coalition. "The Dalai Lama said that, but these people have distorted that meaning."
Muslim leaders say that many mosques around the country prayed for the victims of the shootings during Friday's services.
"One of the victims was a Muslim," Ubaid says. "The largest proportion of victims of ISIS are Muslims -- it makes us all angry, then sad at the same time."
