Leaders and homeowners voiced their support in Nyack today for a bill that would help tackle the problem of homes abandoned by foreclosure throughout Rockland County and New York state.

Over 15,000 of these so-called "zombie homes" are owned by banks who don't complete the foreclosure process, and their condition impacts the perception of the neighborhoods in which they reside.

Sen. David Carlucci says many banks are historically difficult to work with. The bill, which goes to Albany this week, would fine banks and mortgage lenders $1,000 a day until the property is fixed up.

The bill was crafted by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
