The Knights of Columbus hosted a community blood drive in Yonkers on Sunday amid a chronic deficit in blood supply.
Oana Salusbury and her boyfriend were two of many residents who showed up to do their part.
"We know the importance of donating blood," Salusbury says. "We know that there's a shortage of it and we haven't had COVID vaccines, and so this is just a minimal way that we can give back."
Medical experts say the shortage of blood has reached the critical stage nationwide.
The New York Blood Center reports 75,000 donors are needed each week to give patients a fighting chance.
Plans are in the works for the next blood drive to take place in May.
