Joseph Percoco, a former aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and others, is being investigated by the federal government.
It is alleged that Percoco may have taken tens of thousands of dollars while lobbying in Albany for a project started by Cuomo called the Buffalo Billion, a program to revitalize the city of Buffalo and its economy.
Percoco no longer works for Cuomo. He is now a senior vice president at Madison Square Garden.
On Friday, the governor's office received a subpoena from U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara's office for any and all documents related to the investigation.
The governor has also launched an internal investigation and his counsel released a statement reading in part, "This investigation has recently raised questions of improper lobbying and undisclosed conflicts of interest by some individuals which may have deceived state employees involved in the respective programs and may have defrauded the state."
Percoco's attorney released a statement saying his client is a dedicated and effective public servant.
The Madison Square Garden Company, where Percoco now works, says it can't comment on employees. The company added that Percoco is a man of good character and a respected executive at MSG.
