Dozens of people spent their Fourth of July at a rally calling on officials to defund the White Plains Police Department.
Demonstrators demanded that Mayor Thomas Roach and the city move funds from the police department to areas hit hardest by COVID-19.
The Democratic Socialists of America group is among other organizations that demanded justice for Kenneth Chamberlain, a 68-year-old veteran who died at the hands of police back in 2011.
Many say they want justice as police brutality has affected their community.
Organizers tell News 12 it's an important time to rally, as protests around the country continue following the death of George Floyd.
Demonstrators marched from outside the Renaissance Plaza and headed towards the Westchester County Center, where they gathered as a community with the goal of having their voices heard.
