Even though the attacks of Sept. 11 took place 13 years ago, the pain of the loss is still fresh for many in the Hudson Valley.
Family and friends from the region gathered at Ground Zero in Manhattan Thursday to remember their loved ones. More than 200 of the victims were from the Hudson Valley.
For Ericka Andujar, this anniversary was unlike any other. For the first time in 13 years, Andujar ventured to the Manhattan ceremony to remember her aunt Yamel Merino, a first responder from Yonkers who perished in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. "I miss her with all my heart and soul," she said. "I really miss her."
Andujar says she is still not ready to set foot inside the Sept. 11 Museum. Instead, she found her aunt's name among thousands of others who died that fateful day.
