Several communities across the state remembered the life of an FDNY member who died Saturday from 9/11-related cancer.
New Rochelle’s Daniel Foley died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 46.
The Hudson Valley native graduated Clarkstown South High School in 1991, and went on to play football at Iona College.
He joined the FDNY in the Bronx in 1998.
The father of five spent 11 days searching the rubble of the Twin Towers before finding and bringing home the body of his brother Tommy, another FDNY member, after the terror attacks.
According to his family, Foley had a passion for football, boxing, hunting, fishing, boating and country music.
Foley’s company, FDNY Rescue Co. 3, remembered him in the Bronx Sunday.
"Danny Foley is the epitome of a great fireman. He's going to be missed each and every day in this firehouse. Throughout the department, Danny has left an indelible mark on all of us,” said Lt. Mickey Conboy, of FDNY Rescue Co. 3.
His funeral will take place at the Holy Family Church in New Rochelle on Thursday morning.
He will be buried in Nanuet.
