Perhaps no race will be more closely watched than the rematch for the 35th Senate District. Two years ago, Senator Nick Spano (R-Yonkers) won by only 18 votes over Democratic challenger Andrea Stewart-Cousins. It was the longest recount in New York State history.
During this campaign, the gloves were still on for the two candidates. There were allegations of voter intimidation and accusations on both sides of signs being vandalized. Both Spano and Stewart-Cousins say they want to ensure a fair and legal election. Poll watchers from both campaigns have been placed at many voter locations.
