A Rockland man entered a not guilty plea to charges stemming from a deadly hit-and-run last summer.
Patrick Sharkey pleaded not guilty in Rockland County Court on Wednesday.
In July 2023, police say the Garnerville man hit 18-year-old Dariel Rivera, left the scene and later turned himself in. The collision happened on Route 303 in West Nyack as the Central Nyack teen was riding a scooter to work at FedEx.
Authorities say Sharkey was driving with a revoked license and without a required interlock device.
It was said in court that Sharkey has posted a $150,000 bond. He declined to speak as he left the courthouse.
News 12 spoke with Dariel’s parents.
"Life is not anymore what it used to be,” said his mother, Maria. “I want my son back. That's what I want."
The teen's family and friends want justice.
"We miss Dariel. He was a good boy," said his father, Sam. “Anyone that hits anybody and leaves them there for dead should be arrested right away with no bail. They should create a law like that."
