Spring Valley Mayor Demeza Delhomme will be back in court Tuesday after spending four days in jail on a contempt charge.
Delhomme allegedly refused to open a civic center in the village for use as a summer day camp.
Last week, a judge ordered the mayor to make sure all doors in the Kurts Civic Center were open for the camp. Even though Delhomme said the doors were unlocked, the village trustees, who took him to court, said some were not open.
A lawyer for the trustees has been given all the keys to the facility to make sure the building and rooms are accessible.
The mayor will remain in jail until the judge is convinced the village day camp can go forward. Delhomme may be released as early as Tuesday morning during his next court hearing.
On Monday, dozens of parents packed into the center to sign their children up for the few remaining weeks of summer day camp.
Camp officials are working to have everything ready for a short summer program. They expect children to begin using the facility Wednesday morning.
Delhomme will be back in front of a judge Tuesday to ask to be released. His lawyers will likely argue he is no longer in contempt of court because the building is now open.
