Road conditions throughout Westchester are a concern heading into Friday with the temperatures set to dip into the teens.
Residents who hit the roads in Westchester are advised to take it slow because wind gusts coupled with temperatures in the single digits can lead to black ice.
DPW crews in Yonkers were busy plowing and salting the roads Thursday evening, especially secondary and side streets due to the up to 8 inches of snow hitting the area.
The commissioner of the Yonkers DPW says the biting cold is also causing another problem..
"When you have temperatures that are well below freezing, even the salt has trouble melting the ice, so a lot of what we see that's shiny could very well be ice," said Yonkers DPW Commissioner Thomas Meier.
