Greenburgh town officials say they are calling for safety enhancements for pedestrians following several accidents, including some fatal.

Officials say there have been six pedestrian-related accidents since September.

The latest incident was on Jan. 7, when 57-year-old Sandra Dekoubia was fatally struck crossing the Bronx River Parkway at Fisher Lane. Police say she was hit by an SUV traveling southbound.

No charges were filed against the driver of the vehicle, who remained at the scene.

This accident happened down the road from North White Plains train station where a lot of commuters walk through. One neighbor says Dekoubia was part of a group of women who walk in the area together often for exercise. 

Greenburgh town officials say their budget for 2020 includes funding for more sidewalks and crosswalk safety enhancements. Many residents in the area say it's a much needed improvement. 

Officials also say they are in the process of forming a traffic-pedestrian safety committee modeled after the committee the Village of Irvington created a few years ago. 

They say anyone who wants to get involved in the committee should reach out to town hall.
