The lone elevator at a Greenburgh apartment building is back up and running after being out of service for approximately two weeks. But residents say the latest repair does little to address ongoing concerns about recurring breakdowns.

Around noon Thursday, the elevator at 90 Manhattan Ave., a Fairview Manhattan apartment building, resumed operation after repairs were completed, according to building management.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner also confirmed the complex was issued violations related to the ongoing elevator issues.

For residents like Ashley Moore, who lives on the seventh floor with her family, the outage created significant hardships.

Moore went into labor about a week ago while the elevator was still out of service.

“It was exhausting. I felt like I was dying going down the stairs. It was too much to take...the contractions going down the stairs,” Moore told News 12.

Moore said one of her biggest fears was the elevator being out of service near the birth of her baby.

"The pain that I was going through taking the stairs after giving birth started kicking in to the point I had to call my doctor to give me pain medicine," she said.

Moore and her mother, who also lives on the seventh floor, both suffer from severe asthma. She said taking the stairs in the summer heat has made it difficult for family members to leave the building, causing them to avoid going out during the daytime.

Residents are now calling for a more permanent solution, saying elevator problems have become a recurring issue at the building.

“We feel like rent should be put down or we should be compensated due to the fact that the elevator is always broken,” Moore said.

A spokesperson for the building told News 12 they could not comment on whether new elevators would be installed.

However, the spokesperson said the building director plans to work with the elevator company to conduct a thorough inspection to help prevent similar issues in the future.

Town officials say violations have been issued in connection with the elevator problems. Additional enforcement action could follow.
