A controversial plan to build a new garbage processing plant in Stony Point is not sitting well with neighboring towns and villages.
Opponents of "The New Waste to Fuel Facility" say the plan would have smoke stacks sending pollutants into the air.
They also claim tons of garbage from New York City and New Jersey would be carted into Holt Drive in Stony Point..
Protesters say the location is too close to the Hudson River, a school and homes. "There is a proposal that they are going to have stacks. We have no idea how high. We have no idea what's going to come out of those stacks," says Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Phillips.
Others say the plan is a good one and that protesters are overreacting. "When other people are putting things in people's heads, it's called a scare tactic and that's what they're doing," says Stony Point Supervisor Geoffrey Finn.
It will take months for the review process to be completed. If the plant plan is approved, it could be a year or two before it's built.
