Former parishioners of a historic church in Mamaroneck are taking action to prevent its deconsecration and sale.
According to a decree issued in May from the Archdiocese of New York, Archbishop Timothy Dolan signed an order to close the Most Holy Trinity Church on East Boston Post Road.
Former parishioners are actively working toward blocking the sale of the church and have sent a formal appeal to the Vatican.
“This building was created for us to raise us up to God,” said Irene Dolan. “It's not just another building.”
The Roman Catholic church has been a part of the Westchester community since the late 1800s.
Currently, the French-American School of New York is renting part of the space for its high school and administrative offices.
News 12 reached out to the Archdiocese of New York for comment regarding the closure and sale of the church. They have not responded.
