Help from the Hudson Valley is on the way for the city of Buffalo as it continues to dig out from last week's massive snowstorm.
Firefighters and Red Cross volunteers from across the region left this morning from Middletown in a convey of trucks loaded with cots, blankets and other supplies in order to help with relief efforts.
With 12 people confirmed dead, dozens of building collapses and thousands of lives still in danger, Buffalo is now bracing for possible flooding. Temperatures are expected to hit nearly 60 degrees on Monday, causing concern about runoff from melting snow and overflowing creeks.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo told residents to "err on the side of caution" Sunday and move valuables up from the basement and pack a bag should evacuations become necessary. He says evacuation plans and emergency shelters are being readied.
National Guard members spent Sunday clearing storm drains and culverts, to facilitate runoff, and shoveling snow off roofs. Most snow-affected school districts remain closed Monday, and at least four have called off classes for the entire Thanksgiving week.
