The Mount Vernon Fire Department says a firefighter sustained injuries while battling a fire on Tuesday.

The fire took place on 9 Harrison St., shortly before 12 p.m., according to fire officials.

Crews were able to get in under control in less than an hour.

The fire started in the attic, and officials tell News 12 that the narrow staircases made it challenging for firefighters to get up there to fight the blaze.

No one was home at the time of the fire. The firefighter is being treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation.

In addition to Mount Vernon, Pelham Manor and mutual aid responded to the call.
