The U.S. Coast Guard has called off the search for crewmembers aboard a ship that went missing in the Bermuda Triangle during Hurricane Joaquin.
A local man is among 33 seamen who remain unaccounted for.
The family of 34-year-old Richard Pusatere has been devastated since officials announced the ship had sunk last week.
He was a Croton native who attended high school at Archbishop Stepinac in White Plains. For college, he attended SUNY Maritime.
More recently, Pusatere lived in Virginia Beach with his wife and young daughter.
Pusatere was an engineer aboard the El Faro, a 790-foot cargo ship. There are 33 crew members who remain unaccounted for.
The ship reported an unexplained engine failure last Thursday as Joaquin hit the Bahamas.
A U.S. Navy salvage unit is reportedly en route to the search site to help pinpoint exactly where the ship went down.
