Family members and friends of a 12-year-old Yonkers girl who was found dead are demanding the 15-year-old suspect in her death be charged as an adult.

Family members gathered outside the White Plains office of Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore Tuesday in the hopes of having the case played out in criminal court, not family court.

Dana Marie Regan, a seventh-grader from Yonkers, was found dead by her grandmother in her home on March 12. Police say Regan was given a lethal dose of methadone in her drink.

Regan?s mother, Cindi Brink, says she believes two teen boys gave her daughter the methadone pills in an attempt to have sex with her. Police found no evidence of sexual assault.

Only one teenager has been charged in Regan?s death. He has been charged as a juvenile and is scheduled to be arraigned in family court. The suspect has been undergoing psychiatric treatment at Westchester Medical Center since his arrest. The suspect was first found not mentally fit to face arraignment. However, officials say he was arraigned Tuesday as planned.
