An explosion is under investigation at a home in Ulster County.
State police confirmed that the explosion happened on Brueckner Lane in West Hurley Wednesday afternoon.
State troopers and other emergency crews temporarily closed part of Route 28A in the West Hurley area as a precaution.
Officials say they got a report Wednesday afternoon of a structure fire following an explosion.
They couldn't comment on a possible cause or if there were any injuries.
People living nearby heard and felt the explosion.
"Suddenly, there was a loud boom and the house literally shook," says West Hurley resident Kevin Meehan.
Meehan lives less than a half a mile away.
He and his wife say the sound was so loud, they thought a tree fell on their home.
Then, they heard the sirens.
"A very large collection of vehicles, fire truck after fire truck. Then we saw the cloud of smoke," Meehan explains.
Other nearby residents tell News 12, their friends a couple of miles away also heard the boom.
"The town of Woodstock heard it so we're talking miles, It definitely got people talking and making phone calls," says West Hurley resident Scott Royer.
