Health experts are warning people about the dangers of firework smoke.

The American Lung Association says fireworks release irritating gases and harmful metals, including carbon monoxide, aluminum and cadmium, into the air.

They say the smoke contains tiny particles that can trigger asthma attacks and irritate the lungs. Breathing in this smoke can be unhealthy for everyone but especially for children, older adults, those who are pregnant and people with lung or heart disease.

Experts recommend people stay upwind, watch displays from inside and monitor air quality.
