Dozens of former Yonkers city workers started off their new year headed for the unemployment line.

The city announced 151 layoffs in December to fill a projected $16 million deficit. After some union givebacks, the number was reduced to 61, including 22 full-time workers and 39 part-time employees.

However, some fear those numbers will grow after Gov. David Paterson gives his State of the State address Wednesday.

?Hopefully the state will not be reducing what they contribute to either the city or the education system and [possibly] create a worse problem before the end of our fiscal year,? says Yonkers Deputy Mayor Bill Regan.

Many fear the city could suffer with the decrease in police and fire department employees.
