A former women's softball coach at Nyack College was arrested Thursday on multiple counts of sexual assault.

Kurt Ludwigsen, 43, faces nearly 49 counts of harassment, 45 counts of inappropriate touching and one count of sexual abuse. It is alleged that he inappropriately touched more than 10 players on the team.

The Ridgewood, New Jersey resident's arrest was the result of an investigation into allegations of inappropriate behavior between Ludwigsen and his female student athletes.

Based on interviews with the players, South Nyack Police Chief Brent Newbury says the alleged abuse by the first-year coach likely began in October and continued until March. It was during the team's spring break trip to Arizona on March 13 that police say parents alerted the college to Ludwigsen's alleged actions. He was immediately fired.

He is being held on $15,000 bail. His next court appearance is April 13.

The college says a senior school administrator and former coach will be taking over the softball team until a new head coach can be named.
