The new emergency hospital built at the Javits Center in Manhattan is being unveiled today.
The Army Corps of Engineers transformed the convention center into an overflow medical facility. That facility is expected to be up and running today.
For now, the space holds 1,200 hospital beds, but eventually could have as many as 2,900.
Construction is also going on for a 68-bed field hospital in Central Park. It will treat patients transferred by the Mount Sinai hospital network. It's expected to be operational some time Tuesday.
Meantime, work is still being done on Long Island to turn SUNY Stony Brook and SUNY Old Westbury into similar facilities.
