Parents in the East Ramapo school district are getting a sneak peak at next year's budget.

The district received a nearly two percent increase in state funding. The superintendent says this will allow them to bring back important programs like full-day kindergarten, and art and music in the elementary school.

Still, school officials insist the district is still being short-changed by the state's funding formula. "We are serving 24,000 children in private school. We don't get any money for them. That's hurting us," says Superintendent Arthur Fisher.

The proposed $218 million budget falls within the state's "tax cap."

The school board will vote next week on whether to adopt the spending plan. Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, May 19 to vote on a final budget.
