Protesters are calling for more affordable housing in Westchester County, and they want the county executive to release funds for a new study.
Dozens of members of Community Voices Heard, clergy and other activists gathered outside the Westchester County Office Building, in White Plains, stopping traffic along Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.
They say County Executive Rob Astorino canceled a scheduled meeting to discuss the issue, and that he won't release the $100,000 that's supposed to be used to pay for a study to find out where there's a need for affordable housing in Westchester.
Protesters like Alexandria Richardson, of Yonkers, say they can barely afford their run-down apartments and believe Astorino is blind to the community's needs.
Some of the protesters tried unsuccessfully to get inside to speak to Astorino and his staff.
A spokesperson for Astorino says Westchester is committed to affordable housing and has budgeted money for the survey, but counsel to the county executive has advised him that those funds can not be used to pay for the study.
