A 'Day of Hope' was held this weekend to raise money for families affected by fire in Mount Vernon. The blaze tore through two buildings on Mount Vernon Avenue overnight on May 9. Small businesses in Mount Vernon were also destroyed in that fast-moving fire.

"We're here as a community for the people that lost everything. We decided to do a fundraising event to help these families. This is when they need it the most," says Elvira Castillo, of Westchester Latinos Unidos. The fundraiser also included information on fire safety, renter's insurance,  emergency kits and more.
