The daughter accused of murdering her schoolteacher mother was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of second-degree murder in Ossining Village Court.
Police say 26-year-old Anne Trovato stabbed her mother, 59-year-old Patricia Mery, 20 times and hit her in the head with a baseball bat on May 11. They say Mery had battled her daughter for visitation with Trovato?s 3-year-old daughter. Investigators are looking into whether Trovato had attempted to kill her mother before, referring to a time when the brake lines were cut on Mery?s car.
Trovato?s attorney first demanded a felony hearing for her client so a judge can determine if there is enough evidence to sustain the charges. She later canceled that request and is planning to put the case on hold for two weeks. Trovato?s is currently on suicide watch at the county jail and her attorney is asking that she receive medical treatment.
