Pharmacy chain CVS is set to begin selling an antidote administered to those suffering overdoses from drugs like heroin.
The drug naloxone, also known by its trade name Narcan, can quickly reverse the effects of opiates.
The state's Department of Health now has an agreement with CVS to allow its pharmacists to sell naloxone without a prescription.
The drug has become easier to administer the drug in recent years, with police, fire and EMS workers saving thousands who would have possibly died otherwise.
State Sen. David Carlucci has introduced legislation that would force the state's Department of Health to make Narcan available at all pharmacies.
