Gov. Andrew Cuomo's trip to Israel has been met with mixed reactions from constituents in the Hudson Valley.

Cuomo is heading to Israel on his first trip overseas since taking office. He, along with Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Senate Majority co-leaders Dean Skelos and Jeff Klein, are heading to Israel to show bipartisan solidarity with Israel in the midst of the deadly conflict in Gaza.

As truce talks continue between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East, Cuomo says he will be representing the 1.7 million Jewish people who live in New York. Cuomo and the other members of the delegation will only be on the ground in the country for about 30 hours.

In this latest conflict, more than 1,900 Palestinians and 67 Israelis have died. The governor says he is praying the killing stops on both sides.

Some are in favor of the trip; Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer says she agrees with Cuomo and his delegation's message of support for Israel. Others say Cuomo does not speak for them.

Dr. Naseer Alomari is the principal of the Andalusia School in Yonkers, the largest school for Muslim Americans in the Hudson Valley. Alomari accused Cuomo of ignoring the Palestinians. Palestinian-born American Eman Eidah has family still living in Gaza and says she is just praying for peace.

Cuomo will be using his reelection campaign funds to pay for the travel costs for himself and his staff. The other members of the delegation are paying for their trips separately.
