(AP) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo has taken his call to raise New York's minimum wage to Buffalo.

The Democratic governor and Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul appeared with labor leaders and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown Tuesday at a Boys and Girls Club to detail his plan to raise the wage to $10.50 and $11.50 in New York City.

The current $8.75 statewide minimum will go to $9 at year's end.

Cuomo says his proposed increase would generate nearly $4 billion in higher wages -- money he says would go towards goods and services in the local economy.

Cuomo embedded the increase in his state budget proposal being negotiated with the Legislature.

Some Democrats want an even bigger hike. Mayor Bill de Blasio supports a $13 minimum wage in New York City.
