Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a multifamily house fire in Ossining.
The flames ignited just after 10 a.m. at a home on Edward Street.
Authorities say no one was home at the time of the fire.
It is unclear at this time how the fire started.
The situation was further complicated by falling power lines. One official said the electrical service to the building fell down right on top of the tower ladder and that a driver was trapped in a truck at one point. Once fire crews were able to get water on the blaze, their goal was to contain it and stop it from spreading. The house next door sustained minor damage.
At the same time the fire was roaring out of control, the Park School across the street was in the process of a prescheduled early dismissal. The principal says they improvised on the spot and took students out the back door to keep them away from danger.
