6h agoA construction site in South Blooming Grove has been issued a stop work order by the Department of Environmental Conservation.
The site, at 206 Prospect Road, was issued a violation by the DEC on Oct. 16, for construction within 100 feet of state regulated wetland without the proper state permit, according to the state agency.
According to village documents obtained by News 12, construction to build an addition to an existing structure on the property for a house of worship is being performed by Rich Builders NY.
News 12 reached out to the company for comment. A representative acknowledged our inquiry but did not respond with information.
Mayor George Kalaj says the village was not made aware of the violation or stop work order. He did not comment on whether the village knew construction on the property required a state permit.
News 12 and state officials were alerted to the project by a local resident.
A surge in recent village construction has been subject to scrutiny and criticism by some residents who have raised concerns with several building projects - including the Clovewood development which was also issued a stop work order by the DEC for failure to obtain the necessary state permits.
State officials say the owner of the Prospect Road property was ordered to obtain a state permit and stop work not related to site stabilization or erosion and sediment control.
News 12's efforts to reach the property owner for comment have been unsuccessful.
