A group of roughly 20 students are staying busy at their computers this summer while learning new skills at the Digital Arts Experience in Scarsdale.

It’s part of the Code Heroes summer camp, a free two-week coding program made up of mostly middle school-age, under-served students. The DAE worked with partner organizations to identify campers from around the region.

Rob Kissner, of the DAE, says the idea was to teach the students how to code and to create something “that will be a resource for their peers” to fight against cyberbullying.

The camp ends on Friday, but the campers have learned a lot, including game design, coding, graphic design and sound effect creation.

The summer coding camp was made possible through AT&T Aspire, which is focused on school success and helping students prepare for 21st century careers.
