A public hearing allowed Yonkers residents to voice their questions and concerns regarding a proposed park, including how it will affect a bus depot that currently resides on the lot.

The new park, if approved, will be located on Fernbrook Street stretching 3.8 acres from the neighboring Domino Sugar Factory to the County Wastewater Treatment Facility - running through a bus depot.

Because of this, a part of the proposal is the acquisition of the private bus depot's property.

During the brief hearing, residents shared their thoughts on the park and the future of the depot.

“it seems like the busses are going to be moved again, so what is the purpose...where are they going to go?" said Nicole Waite, a member of United Yonkers.

Yonkers acquired the land back in the summer of 2022 for $13 million.

The park is slated to have a playground and an open-space concept for the public to enjoy.

Other residents expressed excitement with the proposed grounds, such as Eddie Rosario, who is a father to nine children.

“...Just to bring people together like all kinds of people. it'll be nice because this is a beautiful view," Rosario said.

While some expressed concerns about safety, with questions on how the city plans to keep the park secure.

"You can't prevent crime...crime will always be there, but you can prevent trouble," said Yonkers resident William Hunt.

At this moment, it has not been specified when the vote will take place.

According to officials, the city is actively working with the bus depot to find them a new space within Yonkers.
