A troublesome railroad crossing in Chappaqua is set to receive some new safety upgrades.

The call for improved safety measures comes after the deadliest wreck in Metro-North history, which occurred this February in Valhalla and left six people dead. The focus is now shifting to the crossing at Roaring Brook Road, just off the Saw Mill River Parkway.

The Town of New Castle has placed more police patrols near the crossing, resulting in 20 people receiving tickets in March alone. Earlier this month, a bus driver was arrested after the gate came down on top of the bus, which was carrying two kids at the time.

Town Supervisor Robert Greenstein says they will be sending a letter to Albany requesting federal funds to build an overpass. In the meantime, the area surrounding the crossing will be re-paved with markings on both sides, in addition to getting new signs and better lighting to alert drivers.

Drivers can expect to see the improvements by the end of this month.
