4h agoThere are growing concerns this morning over Mount Vernon DPW's ability
to keep the streets clear when the storm strikes.
Lauren Carter, a candidate for the Mount Vernon City Council, visited the
city’s Public Works yard on Tuesday and says DPW workers are using equipment
that is too old to handle the winter storm. "The equipment they have to
work with it is substandard. It is outdated and the guys are doing everything
they can to keep Mount Vernon clean and ready."

Carter says workers have not been compensated
for overtime and morale is low.
Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson Howard however is reassuring
residents that the DPW workers will not let them down,
and they will work to keep the city's streets clean.
The mayor says the reason workers haven't been paid for overtime is due to an
issue with the comptroller.
