The Bronx Zoo is introducing an exhibit called “Dinosaurs in Darkness” that takes visitors on an interactive journey through prehistoric times.
Virtual paleontologists will task zoo visitors with finding a baby T-Rex.
"They're going to have some scares, some jumps, amazing lighting, amazing dinosaurs and a good time," says director of Event Programming and Rides at the Bronx Zoo Rachel Libretti.
Zoogoers will travel on a path lined with mechanical dinosaurs. They will also encounter actors running through the forest and bringing the journey to life.
Each dinosaur exhibit will also feature a board underneath it with fun facts about the prehistoric creatures.
"I think it's really cool seeing all the different dinosaurs. My kids are obsessed with dinosaurs, so we do these kinds of things,” says Monica Leiter, who attended opening night. “But this is the first in the nighttime, so it's neat to see them in a different environment."
While all ages are welcome, the zoo says they launched the nighttime program to cater to older children.
The exhibit will run every Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
“It brings more people to the zoo who might not have gone,” says Louis, one of the attendees. “Bring the kids here, it’s a nice experience.”
