Hundreds attended a Black Lives Matter march in Bridgeport Saturday despite organizers saying that Rev. Al Sharpton canceled his appearance at the event.
Organizers say they were not discouraged by Sharpton's choice not to attend, and that members of his nonprofit civil rights organization National Action Network were on hand to take part.
They say a handful of people who disapproved of the way the march was organized had called Sharpton's office and expressed concern over his visit.
The National Action Network did not respond to News 12 Connecticut's request for comment.
