Instead of lining up to storm the doors of brick-and-mortar stores on Black Friday, it appears that more people went online and stormed websites in search of bargains.
The latest numbers show a trend toward kicking back at home to snatch up deals.
Sales at retail stores on Black Friday fell to $10.4 billion this year, down from $11.6 billion in 2014. A big reason for the decline is increased online shopping.
Another factor is that many retailers offer bargains long before Thanksgiving. That tends to limit the impact of Black Friday specials.
Cyber Monday - when traditionally people hit the computers at work to buy things online - may also have an impact on holiday shopping.
