Graham Swift's novel "Mothering Sunday" is perfect for "Downton Abbey" fans. It is set in England in the 1920s and tells the story of an affair between a wealthy young man and a maid.

"The Private Life of Mrs. Sharma" by Ratika Kapur is about an Indian housewife living with her in-laws while her husband is away. She starts an affair with a young man and it doesn't end well.

Daniel Magariel's "One of the Boys" is an intense story narrated by a 12-year-old boy with a drug addict father.

"All Grown Up," by Jami Attenberg is like HBO's show "Girls," but for 30-40 year olds.

Mohsin Hamid's "The Reluctant Fundamentalist" follows a Pakistani man living in the U.S. after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

All of these novels are under 200 pages, making it easy to finish through a weekend.
