BB gun prompts emergency procedures at Mount Vernon elementary school

Officials say the school initiated a hold in place protocol after being informed by another student about the presence of the gun.

A student bringing a BB gun to Nelson Mandela/Dr. Hosea Zollicoffer Elementary School triggered emergency procedures on Tuesday.
Acting superintendent of schools Dr. K. Veronica Smith disclosed that officials at the school initiated a hold in place protocol after being informed by another student about the presence of the gun.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the hold in place measure was enacted as a precautionary safety measure.
Police are actively investigating the incident.
