The 2015 Walk to End Alzheimer's disease will be held Sunday in White Plains.
Organized by the Alzheimer's Association, the walk will raise awareness and funding for a cure to the currently irreversible disorder.
Bill Finkeldey, of New Castle, was diagnosed with in Alzheimer's in his late 50s. Now 65, he says the disease has taken some parts of his life away. Finkeldey worked as a youth counselor and youth director in Hastings for 30 years.
"It came to the point where things just weren't going into memory," he says. "It's hard to describe the feeling."
To cope with the disease, Finkeldey says he finds a new project each day to keep his mind sharp, which is why he's participating in Sunday's walk. He has the support of his family and his care consultant from the Alzheimer's Association, Pat Gaston.
The walk begins at 10:15 a.m. at White Plains High School.
